We’re happy to announce that we have two very talented artists making their way to the MEME platform this week!

  • Lucas Guzman | 🎮 MEME Game 👾| 6/2
  • James McDermott | Great Memes of Chaos | 6/3

Lucas Guzman

Lucas is a 3D artist, or in his own words, a ‘Digital Blacksmith’ who is Argentinian living in Amsterdam. In the past few years, after making renders and visuals and 3D printing for different fashion companies, he decided to start producing 3D assets for video games, VR experiences, and other interactive media, like NFTs.

What excites you about being on MEME?
You guys are creating a collective of amazing artists. I have already talked to great talented minds that have already dropped there. I love that they give the proper space for an artist’s drop, including promotion on social media posts. And of course, the fact that we all share a theme: Memes and pineapples. It gives a suggestion of an element to use, yet they allow us to have full creative freedom on what we want to create for our drops.

What’s next for you as a digital artist?
The metaverse! As a game artist and real-time specialist, I feel ashamed to say that I haven’t yet built something in one of the NFT virtual land projects. I want to create wearables for avatars, environments for NFT museums, and weapons for game characters. I have worked in fashion and gaming for years, so one of the things I would love to do is to become a digital blacksmith for the metaverse.

A little insight into Lucas’ creative process:

My style of creating comes from decades of using a plethora of different software. Since I was a little argentinian kid playing around with Flash and Unreal Tournament’s Map editor, I enjoyed mixing tools to create storytelling and just visually interesting graphics. As I grew up and found out that I could make a living out of this, that started shaping my life. I moved to Amsterdam to work for different companies as a 3D artist, and now I am about to become an european citizen. All thanks to 3D art and animation! And this is just the start of another chapter! There will be lots of new collabs, experiences and new content coming from me!

Thank you so much to the MEME team and the whole community for this opportunity!

James McDermott

Emmy Award winner, James McDermott, is a Los Angeles based art director/concept designer/character designer with twenty-four years of experience in TV animation. James has formerly worked for Disney, FOX, Adult Swim, Nickelodeon, Spike, TBS, HUB, Starz, and Squanch Games. James may be a noob to the game industry, but his hidden talent is grilling food so delicious that it converted his formerly vegetarian wife to an omnivore.

What excites you about NFTs and/or DeFi?

I like that it’s open ended and can be anything. If you have an idea that’s captivating and is presented in its own interesting way that doesn’t necessarily have to be expressed through artwork.

Where will NFT art be in 3 years?

Hopefully it can continue to expand and get bigger while at the same time figuring out a way to minimize its carbon footprint.

What’s next for you as a digital artist?

I’m currently continuing on with my endeavours in TV animation and am exploring more options in the NFT space for the future.

Describe Creative Process — Anything special here? Anything you’d like readers to know about you as an artist?

Drawing villains is probably the highlight of any drawing tasks I do. In creating this series my personal life was in the throes of chaos so there’s an innate need to reflect that emotion in my work in a playful way which in turn seems to minimize the weight of outcomes with real life problems I’m faced with. I thumbnail out a few ideas and will revise the drawing and sometimes the idea multiple times before honing in on what the final piece is trying to convey.
